It gets hot in Florida. So, if I’m going to exercise outside (rucking is my preferred cardio), I try to do it before the sun comes up to mitigate the heat. Of course that means its dark, so I have a little rechargeable LED light that clips on to make me visible to any cars or peope that might be out at that hour.

For a while, there was an “older” (can’t say “old” anymore) woman who would be out walking at that same hour. We’d always say “good morning” or “hello” and continue our laps on the sidewalk at the nearby park. I had to leave town for a few days and when I returned, I went out for my pre-dawn ruck and saw my friend. As we approached one another she smiled and said, “I haven’t seen that light in a few days!” referencing my LED. “I missed that light. It was always comforting to know you were here.”

Sometimes, we don’t know when our spiritua light will impact people the same way. Matthew 5:16 reads:

In the same way, let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

This passage talks about our “good works. “Not “magnificent works,” not “unique works” – the good things we do every day that might seem simple or insignificant to us, yet impactful to others (we’ll talk about a couple of those in upcoming blog posts). God calls us to be lights and to be ready to respond when people ask us about why we’re different or why we have a sense of hope and peace they don’t find in others (1 Peter 3:15).

Who is missing your light today? And how can you bring it to them?

May God bless you to shine your light brighter every day.
